Kumihimo is Japanese wisdom which connects spaces. This craft has been a pillar of Japanese aesthetics since ancient times,
and is now taking on a new form as an architectural material.

This is an architectural interior brand by Ryukobo, a collective of kumihimo Japanese braiding artisans. The brand utilizes kumihimo braiding in new forms and applications for architectural spaces based on the high level of techniques and skill cultivated in the production of traditional Japanese clothing. The brands fully made-to-order production helps expand the potential of kumihimo while also bringing new value to spaces.

The Kumihimo Interior Lab explores and proposes innovative spatial designs,
enabling limitless architectural expressions through the free combinationof various shapes and colors of kumihimo (traditional Japanese braids).

Kumihimo can be produced from a wide range of materials, including silks, synthetic fibers, non-flammable threads, metallic threads, and more. Under a philosophy of "We can braid anything but water and air", the optimal materials are selected to suit the applications and spaces, to bring beautiful and elegant expressions to life.

組紐には、藤四ツ組・奈良組・金剛組・冠組など、多彩な組み方があり、形状や柄に豊かな個性が生まれます。
空間の印象や構造に合わせて、最適な種類の組紐を選定・ご提案いたします。
There are a number of methods of weaving in kumihimo, including Fujiyotsu-gumi, Nara-gumi, Kongo-gumi, and Yurugi-gumi., each creating a variety of different characters and expressions in shape and pattern. We will select and offer proposals for the optimal type of kumihimo to suit your space and structures.

Designs with dimensionality and depth can be created by utilizing a variety of braiding techniques, such as "knotting", "layering", "floating", and "bundling", and combinations of different types of kumihimo. We offer a new, never-before-seen type of space expression which blends form and function and provides both durability and flexibility.
